CONVENT OF MERCY NURSING CARE HOME
Sister Bernadette's Speech
at the reopening of the Care Home

Sr. Bernadette This is a great day for the Convent of Mercy Nursing Care Home here in Colwyn Bay and it is good that so many of you could be here today to celebrate the reopening of the House.

Over the last two years a great deal of planning and skill has gone into the refurbishment of the Home to make it as it is today. It has been a longer period of rebuilding for the Home than we expected.

Sister Dympna and all the staff have tried to keep the Home running as smoothly as possible during this time, to meet the needs of the patients who have been cared for during this period of time. Our special thanks go to every member of staff because we realise it hasn't been easy at times to continue the care, to keep the place clean, to provide a hot meal, to transfer furniture from are to another etc.

I think you will agree it has been worth it all, to have such an inviting building, within which a high standard of care can be given. Sisters too for enduring,

Our thanks go to Ron White and Martin Fenelly of Cody & Lofthouse, the architects, and their team who redesigned the Home and have created such excellent features. To Graham and Glynne and all the representatives from C. Wynne and Sons who ? in the building project and have ensured that a good standard of workmanship has been carried out on behalf of us all. I thank you for finishing the project and for the many times you advised in difficult situations Ross Standish, BWS Quality Surveyor.

This Home could not have been altered without the skills of all the builders, the painters, electricians, the heating engineers, the joiners, the carpet fitters, all those who have been involved behind the scenes ordering the fixtures and fittings. - Chubb - mechanical engineers.

A special word of thanks to Nick Todd, the clerk of works, who oversaw the works and who cannot be with us today,

Also to Bernard Logan who delivered all the furniture, organised the curtains with his team and has added to the ambience of the Home. I hope we are forgiven for all the delivery delays!

The teamwork has enabled this venture to come to fulfilment. It is now with joy that we go forward to build on the work of the Sisters and Staff who have given such dedicated service in the past.

Our Foundress, Catherine McAuley and Sisters tried to meet the needs of the sick in her day and this is our call today, to give a high quality of nursing care, remembering the total needs of the person being cared for and the support of their families and carers.

Our hope is that this Home will be slightly different to others in the area, in that it will reflect the Mercy and Compassion for those in need of care, at any stage of their illness. We wish Sister Dympna and the staff every blessing in the weeks ahead.

For all that has been - we say thank you.
For all that is - we say thank you.
For all that will be - we say thank you.
I now call upon the Deputy Mayor, Mr. Cossey, to unveil the plaque and say a few words.
Fr.Brendan will then bless the plaque and the Home.
