Convent of Mercy Care Home, Colwyn Bay

Philosophy of Care

The compassion of Jesus Christ in his encounter
with suffering humanity is our source and inspiration
as Sisters of Mercy in the Apostolate of the Sick.

'1t is a special favour of God to be made the servants of his suffering creatures.'
(Catherine McAuley Foundress of the Sisters of Mercy)

We are called to be a sign of hope,
to restore and give courage to a sick society,
continuing to identify and respond to changing needs
creatively, competently and with practical resourcefulness.
The overall mission of mercy
is to be lived through love, tenderness and compassion.
We, as Sisters of Mercy,in health care today
enable those in need to be aware of their rights
and empower them to achieve their full potential as human persons.

Mercy Health Care in our Homes is rooted in the following core values:
  • The dignity and worth of each person regardless of race, sex, creed or social status.
  • Compassion for the sick, suffering and grieving.
  • The Provision of quality Health Care which acknowledges that health is whole-ness
and which requires an openness to new ideas and developments.
  • Respecting people's right to privacy and confidentiality
and the encouragement of self-determination and independence as far as possible.
  • An approach to care which is Faith centred,
committed to the spiritual, physical and psychological wholeness of the person
and providing a channel through which the merciful, healing love of Christ is transmitted.
